Heath Bar

We stumbled onto this while trying to invent sticky toffee pudding you could drink. Then it turned into a Heath bar. That is how ideas go around here. They start respectable and end up as candy.

The first version was built on the Buzz, which is why the Heath Bar Buzz exists. Then we found out you do not need the coffee. Powder and toffee. That is the whole trick. It tastes like a Heath bar.

There is a little coffee flavor hanging around. It is not real coffee. There is no caffeine in it. Do not write us a letter.

What you actually get is a mild caramel with real toffee chips sitting at the bottom of the cup. If something chunky hits, that is the toffee. Do not panic. That is the point.

Parents love it. Kids love it. People love it. This is probably the sweetest drink on the menu, and I am not apologizing.

I like this one hot more than iced. You get it however it tickles your fancy.

Hot or iced. Kid friendly. Dairy-free if you need it. Almond milk or oat milk. The powder is lactose-free.

Geeky Fact

A Heath bar is English toffee, almonds, and milk chocolate. A schoolteacher named L.S. Heath bought a candy shop in Robinson, Illinois in 1913 so his sons, Bayard and Everett, would have a job. They opened it in 1914 as a candy store, an ice cream parlor, and a factory, which is a lot of ambition for one storefront.

The toffee recipe supposedly showed up with a traveling salesman, who got it from a Greek confectioner. In 1928 they started selling it as Heath English Toffee and printed "America's Finest" on it. Bold, for a candy they were still stirring by hand in a copper kettle. They did not stop doing it by hand until 1942, when the Army ordered $175,000 worth and the kettle days ended.

For a while you could get a Heath bar delivered with your milk, because the family also ran a dairy. In 1989 they sold the company to Leaf, a Finnish outfit. Hershey bought it in 1996. The bar is still made in Robinson. The town kept the candy. The family did not keep the company.
